Exmouth- 3 weeks in...

Exmouth three weeks in... we've survived so far! The temperature was about 45 C the first few weeks, but Cyclone Dominic brought some rain and some cooler weather. The effects of Dominic were few for Exmouth, except the rising river near Carnarvon has cut off supplies both in and out (no newspapers).

The coral reefs are amazing, the national park stunning. The caravan- small, and sometimes leaky. But it has been interesting so far.

Well, we made it to Exmouth, and after a few hours of trying, managed to wedge our home (the caravan) into its’ place. The beach behind the farm is lovely, with small pebbles and a gradual slope into the deeper water. So far we’ve seen quite a few small stingrays.

The drive up was as nice as an 16 hour drive towing a caravan can be. Dave towed the caravan behind the work ute, and I followed in the car loaded with our stuff. We stopped the first night at a free camping site by a river, and the second night in a caravan park in Coral Bay. We tried out our new camera with its’ waterproof case while snorkelling.

Sunday was spent putting up the awning, and unpacking the ute and car. We had hoped to go to church but needed to put the awning up before the heat of the day. That evening we stepped outside and remarked how cool it was- then had a look at the thermometer, and it was 36 C. But the usual temperature has been around 45-48 C, so 36 was actually cooler. We’re adjusting.

Monday was Dave’s first day at work, with 2 of the 4 staff present. Heather was also at work, sorting out our packed stuff, and a trip into town to do laundry, go to the library, go shopping, and fill up our big water dispensers for drinking water.

Merry Christmas

Hello All,

How are you? Just wishing you each a Merry Christmas.
It has been a crazy year for us- we started out the year with the 1st anniversary of our second wedding (the one in Perth), then a trip to the US in May and June. While in the US we travelled to Yellowstone National Park and spent some time travelling around Texas. We celebrated my brother's birthday and my best friend's birthday in May as well as our 2nd anniversary on June 17. July saw us in Indonesia. Heather stayed in Indo until September, when she returned to Australia and started teaching Pre-Primary at Dale Christian School. David returned from Indonesia in December, and after school ended we went away for a while. In January, we will be moving to Exmouth as Dave begins work at a marine fish farm. We will be living in a caravan until the house the business is providing is finished (around March).

We are looking forward for settling in Exmouth for a few years- getting some experience managing a fish farm under David's belt. Heather will be (relief) teaching at the local school, or looking for other part-time work.

Our New Temporary Home....

We finalized the purchase of the caravan today. We will be living in it as we work in Exmouth, until the house is finished (March, maybe).

We're looking forward to the challenge of condensed living- again, only on a smaller scale, and with only our stuff to deal with. This is an 18 foot Coromal Seka, with a fridge, freezer, air conditioner, double bed, kitchenette, microwave. All it lacks is a toilet/shower, which is fine as we will have access to all of that where we will be living. We will put some more photos up soon.

I'm back

Hello all,
I (David) am back in WA now. I arrived on Sunday afternoon. Since then I've been helping Heather out at Pre-Primary. She enjoyed teaching there but is also glad to have a holiday. We'll be moving up to Exmouth early next year as I have a job at an on-shore fish farm near town. I'm flying up with the owner next week to see the place and to sort out where we will be living (probably in a caravan initially). We are keen to catch up with friends before we go so if you have some free time over the next few weeks let us know. We'll post more details about what exactly we'll be doing up north when we know them. Living in Indonesia was worthwhile and we are open to going back if the business there gets their act together. Much opportunity but nothing realised yet.
